He was drumming with Big Brother when Janis Joplin was with the band, and they recorded their multi-platinum album “Cheap Thrills”. He is named in Peter Erskine's (Weather Report, Steely Dan) list of 500 'Infinity Drummers' as #231, as one of the drummers who's playing and style have influenced the art of drumming in contemporary music. Dave has also toured and recorded with Country Joe and the Fish, It's A Beautiful Day, and numerous other jazz, rock and blues artists in his career of over 65 years. He is also a visual artist whose work has been exhibited and collected internationally. Peter Albin grew up in San Francisco and initially arrived on the city's booming folk music scene in the early '60s as a guitarist. In tandem with drummer Chuck Jones and fellow guitarist Sam Andrew, he formed the core of the group that became Big Brother & the Holding Company, playing bass guitar. Albin has also played periodically with Country Joe McDonald and Barry Melton. He was also a founding during the early '80s of Dinosaurs, a jocularly named ensemble of veteran Bay Area musicians from the 1960s. Darby Gould began performing with Big Brother & the Holding Company in 2013. The daughter of a minister father and a pianist mother, Darby’s first singing experiences were in front of a church audience. She joined her first band at age 12, and is best known for her work with Paul Kantner’s Jefferson Starship (since 1991) and World Entertainment War, the last band managed by Bill Graham. Now balancing single parenthood with a full-time job and her music career, she still makes time to appear with various bands in the Bay Area. Darby is thrilled to be a part of Big Brother and is honored to sing such celebrated songs while sharing the stage with legendary musicians. Guitarist Tom Finch, a California native, is influenced by rock, blues, and jazz styles. A Gulf Coast Music Hall of Fame inductee, Tom has toured throughout the U.S., Europe, Japan and Canada, and is featured on many albums with groups such a Big Brother & the Holding Co, Jazz Iguanas & Pamela Parker, as well as leading his own groups. Tom has played with a variety of artists including Jefferson Starship, Joan Baez, Norton Buffalo, and many more! His formal training includes 10 plus years of study in music theory, composition, performance, and education, and he has taught music for more than 20 years. Keyboardist Henry Salvia, born and raised in Detroit MI, played a bit of everything - weddings to wakes, country to fusion, and a lot of Top 40 in a lot of hotels and cinder block bars. Moving to San Francisco and up the food chain, he graduated to working with people like Huey Lewis, Rickey Lee Jones, Big Jay McNeeley, Jessica Mitford and Maya Angelou, Metallica, and now Big Brother and the Holding Company. He and his wife Kathleen Salvia perform their compositions as The Flying Salvias, Amerikinda Music, and he enjoys playing with local songwriters Maurice Tani and Jenny Kerr on a regular basis. The Vibes feature many of the best musicians currently living in the central valley. Steve Ashman (Bass and Vocals) founded the legendary 15 piece Zasu Pitts Memorial Orchestra. The Pitts were nominated for 8 Bammies (Bay Area Music Awards) - winning 2, and garnered 7 EMMY nominations (winning 3) for the PBS production of their live New Year’s Eve concert (aired internationally). Ashman was honored in 2018 by our own Modesto Area Music Awards (MAMA) with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Steve has shared the stage with too many luminaries to count; including Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead, Narada Michael Walden (Mahavishnu Orchestra), Chris Isaak, Paul Kantner (Jefferson Airplane), Stan Getz and Huey Lewis. Joe Barretta (Guitar and Vocals) - Looking for the total package? You've found him! Joe can often be found playing his guitar, relaxing on a beach near the Pacific. Joe has played numerous concerts with some of the greats including BB King, Sonny Freeman, Gatemouth Brown, Charlie Musselwhite, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, John Hammond, Andy Narell, Clint Black, Dwight Yoakam and even Soupy Sales. Joe has two CDs available on Spotify, iTunes and Amazon (entitled "barretta" and "Not Satisfied"). Joe wants you to go online as soon as you get home and order a few! Recognized as one of the best guitar players our area has to offer, Joe’s unique style and prodigious song writing keep him in great demand. Gary Nelson (Guitar and Vocals) – A founding member of Modesto’s own Third Party, Gary is currently working on a musical score for his one man play entitled "The Magic Quadrant for Disaster Recovery as a Service". Nobody, including Gary, is really sure what the title means, but it does have a nice ring to it! When asked about his philosophy of life, Gary offers the following advice, "Blessed is the man who, having nothing to say, abstains from giving us wordy evidence of the fact." David Rogers (Drums) - Once runner up for TIME magazine's sexiest man alive, Dave has parlayed his fame into a semi-used drum kit. His notable career accomplishments include rescuing a fireman from a burning building, handcrafting soap sculptures of penguins in tuxedos and playing on the 1 and 3 (somewhat) consistently. A member of too many bands to count, Dave also makes a mean daiquiri and loves puppies. One of his greatest accomplishments was to marry the remarkable and effervescent Kate Trompetter, one of the 3 brains behind Modesto’s Porchfest.
