Based on the Broadway show and movie from Walt Disney Productions, set in the turn-of- the-century New York, it's a true story based on the actual Newsboys Strike of 1899. Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of the teenaged “newsies.” When Joseph Pulitzer, a titan of publishing, raises distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from around the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what is right. The show is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message for the entire family, and features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman. This the first-ever production of Newies by Modesto Performing Arts, a community theater gem for more than 50 years!
