| Romeo & Juliet is a timeless tale of two young lovers torn apart by the feud between their families, which speaks to the terrible costs of such division within our communities. Director, Carolina Stevens has put together an ensemble of ten women from the valley to comprise the cast of Romeo and Juliet, performing the characters as the gender they were written. The all-female cast provides the perfect backdrop to explore the gender themes in this classic love story. Come witness how Romeo and Juliet challenge societal ideas and incorporate traits of the opposite gender. Shakespeare’s decision for the pair to defy the gender standards of the time brings their love together in an undeniable way, yet as the play unravels, their attempts to re-conform to the societal expectations eventually leads to their ill-fated tragedy. Rating: PG Tickets are $15 general admission; and $10 for students. Reduced Mid-Season Membership subscriptions are also available. Box office opens 30 minutes before each performance. |
