Name: Science presentation on “The Earth Has a History"
Date: December 1, 2017
Time: 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM PST
Event Description:
The Modesto Area Partners in Science (MAPS) invites the community to the free presentation “The Earth Has a History: Rates of Geologic Change and Global Warming" by Garry Hayes, MJC professor of geology. The talk is Friday, December 1, 7:30 p.m., in Sierra Hall, room 132, on Modesto Junior College’s West Campus, 2201 Blue Gum Avenue, Modesto.

One of the most important clues in understanding today's climate is the Earth's past history. This presentation will provide a perspective on how rapidly the Earth's climate has changed over the last 65 million years compared to the changes happening today. The discussion will also include a look at some of the methods geologists use to document the past.

Professor Hayes holds a Master of Science degree from University of Nevada and has taught at MJC since 1988. He has published articles in the National Association of Geoscience Teachers – Far Western Section’s Conference Guidebooks, and in 2013 published Geology and Cultural History of the Western Colorado Plateau with a Geologic Road Guide for Grand Canyon, Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks, for a field seminar with the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.

MAPS programs are made possible by contributions from the MJC Foundation, Associated Students of MJC, Stanislaus County Office of Education and the Great Valley Museum.
