The Four Freshman
| Bob Ferreira, Curtis Calderon, Stein Malvey and Tommy Boynton—The Four Freshmen of today—continue a tradition that began in 1948 and would go on to have an amazing influence on popular music performers, among the most prominent being The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson and The Manhattan Transfer. The group blends open-harmonic jazz arrangements with the big band vocal group sounds of The Modernaires (Glenn Miller), The Pied Pipers (Tommy Dorsey), and The Mel-Tones (Artie Shaw). Among their many, many hits are “It’s a Blue World,” “Day by Day,” “Poinciana,” and “I Remember You.” | |
