| Writers across America are banding together to speak to the ideals of democracy as a sort of “inauguration” of our post-election commitment to combating public cynicism, fighting disdain for truthfulness, and pushing back against hatred and bigotry. On Sunday, January 15, 2017, poets and writers will share personal work, writings from the Constitution, and the work of diverse voices throughout history that address the ideals of democracy. Events are planned for New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Oakland, Seattle, London, Hong Kong, and many other cities. Writers Resist: Modesto Louder for Free Expression will feature readings by the following: Lillian Vallee Trudy Wischemann Manny Moreno Flora Carter Paula Treick DeBoard Sam Pierstorff Gillian Wegener Melchor Sahagun Salvatore Salerno Vielka Solano Nancy Maya Chad Sokolovsky Aishah Saleh Eva Mo Linda Scheller Tina Curiel-Allen Optimism One Paul Muncy Sarah Stevenson Gary Thomas Nancy Haskett Gordon Preston Mark Nicoll-Johnson Tom Portwood Tina Driskill Nick Zagone Elizabeth Sousa Karen Baker and others with a musical performance by Mattéa Overstreet.
